Vanda is a leader of the Witoto people. She incorporates her role as a speaker, political educator and director of social politics. She has become a responsible leader in Latin America especially through her role as environmental and climate activist.
Born and raised on the banks of the Solimões River in the Brazilian Amazon, Vanda Witoto embodies the spirit of her people, the Witoto, who revere ants as a symbol of resilience, hard work and community.
As a nursing technician, Vanda played a key role in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, becoming the first person vaccinated in the state of Amazonas. She provided medical care to 700 families in Parque das Tribos, a peripheral indigenous neighbourhood without basic infrastructure in the metropolitan region of Manaus. She is contributing to revive the ancestral knowledge of ancient indigenous medicine, acknowledging the healing properties of the forest.
